Yes… we hired a Jeep!

The main reason we wanted to come to Switzerland was to visit a couple of sites in the centre of St Gall.

Within a few hundred meters of our destination we encountered a Police roadblock. After the requisite “Gutten Tag” from us, we had a member of the Swiss constabulary either side of the car wanting to know what business we had there? Lowana thought she heard them ask about the “Embassy”, I thought they asked if there was an “emergency”…!?

After the honest, yet not very promising answer of “wanting to visit the Library”, there followed a surprising amount of teeth gnashing, then deliberation, then “ok, ok, just go swroo…” we obliged.

We then discovered that ours was the only car granted permission into the geographical and cultural heart of St Gall. Sheepishly, we tried to park as inconspicuously as one can when parking the only car next to the city’s cultural and historic icons.
